If you like a story that is filled w/t hoooot love scenes, then this is the book for you! This is the fourth book, I believe in the Chavalier series. I read book one and loved it! I passed on the other two from the reviews and the samples left me uninterest. In this book in my opinion, it was just filled with sex, sex, and more sex! I don't mind hot love scenes but I had my fill and then some with this book. It was a good length but it was a bit repetitive. Over and over again in Rance's mind he kept thinking about her (Jade), the same, I love her and why. That got old really fast! In spite of this I did enjoy the boys fighting over Jade at the resturant in the beginning, which is why I bought this book! I enjoyed the ball as well! It did have a little mystery, that answered a question I kept asking myself about one character, that was pretty interesting! Some of the characters do show face from the other books in the series, I did like that! I have read a few other books by Shara Azod and I really enjoyed two others! The main reason that I am giving this book three stars is because of Rance, the hero. He was the alpha male, sexy and maybe a little too possesive but hey, that's okay. Even the heroine being a bit of a pushover was not the problem. It was simply the book did not develop their relationship adequately. The other charcters in the book drown the main characters out. And the back story was a bit too much. I bought this book without reading Thierry's Angel so I did not know a lot of the background and at times what was going on in the story. It was okay if you like the series but this book could not stand alone.
I like the Chevalier series in general. I thought Rance's character could have shown more potential than the ability to use his 'appendage' so frequently and need 'it' so bad. Jade's character had a slow start from other that saying 'Yes' and being a whimpering fool all of the time. She didn't even come across as ditzy as I think the author wanted to portray. She was just...unaware of actually being a character of this book. How could she not know how Rance felt? Wasn't Jade present in the other books?
Also Rance didn't seem to have a life. He didn't act like a lawyer. I understand he was supposed to be the ultimate 'Alpha' but he fell a bit flat for me. And the added mystery was not a page turner for me. It just left a sour taste in my mouth. The dark life that Rance lived prior to Jade left scars but it read so disjointed that it didn't have much of a smoother effect.
I don't usually mind editing issues but when the first chapter just skips to a different character with no warning and repeats the same line over again as a transition (?) I actually do have a problem. Yikes.
SPOILER ALERT The mistress scene was not needed. The threesome scene unnecessary because it was not written in well enough to support the story. I think a good editing before presenting the book might have finished this saga off with a bang. There were some unfinished questions like Remy and Rance's relationship - did they resolve the rift or not? Piers - why is he now a homicidal maniac all of the sudden? Wouldn't he have an issue with Jade prior to this book? Why wait until now. And my biggest pet peeve - time continuity. I have that more than bad editing. How are Thierry and Angel together for two years and her cousin Solange is only missing for 1 year? And if Thierry was in a relationship for 2 years wouldn't that make Regina a little bit more pregnant than necessary? How did she just suddenly go into premature labor? She should have been pregnant for more than 11 months if we are following along with the 'timeline'.
Sigh, it was just so much missed potential.
This is a new author for me, and I will add her to my 'favorite' list becuase this book and the entire 'Chevalier series is great. I purchased entire series and read each book from cover to cover. Clearly, I love a well written series over a standalone book.
This is my second favorite out of the Chevalier Saga. This is because I love the Rance character and I see some people said the characters relationship wasn't developed. From the previous books you learn that Rance has been carrying a torch for a while for Jade so this didn't just come out of nowhere. Now once again we are reading a book of fiction. This is not real life so take the book for what it's worth and please stop reading into it. Now another complaint I have is with the editing or proofreading of this book, honestly it was horrible. But I still love the story except they kind of blindside you with the Piers situation!
I like almost everything that Shara Azod writes.I am a huge fan of the Chevalier series. Thierry's Angel is my favorite book with Forever Jade coming in as a close second. This book is very well developed and gives the most information about the entire Chevalier family while introducing some newer members. The remaining Chevalier books are a little to light on the same narrative detail,storytelling,and character build up that make the other 2 books so special. This is a great wrap up to the Chevalier series and probably should have been the last of a good thing but there are more offerings from this series.
So far I have read the first three books in this series and I thought this book was great!!!! Thierry's Angel is still my favorite but this is a close second. Rance is definitely alpha male in its rarest form. Despite the darkness of his past, he knew he loved Jade and was unwilling to give her up. Jade knew she loved Rance even when she didn't believe a man like him could be attracted to her. The drama although over the top seemed fitting considering the sickness that was a part of the family history. There seemed to be no other end for the grandmother other than that she die. For a minute I thought the author was going to have her miraculously recover an THAT would have been far-fetched. It even actually made sense once they revealed the culprit. The explanation for why he did it was plausible. Readers of this series have to remember the history this family. The grandmother was SERiOUSLY disturbed. It only made sense that some of that rubbed off on the one grandchild who never got out.
